Showdown Skills Competition - Starting at noon on Saturday March 29th
Yes, the Thrills… the Excitement… the Laughter! Each team can elect to participate. In order to participate, each team must choose different player(s) for each category (we encourage teams to select their graduates for the skills competition if possible), i.e., you cannot have the same player competing in more than one skilled event. It’s been designed for Fun! Let’s strive to keep it that way! This fun event will be held on Saturday, March 30th, prior to the semi-final rounds.
Competitors:
Tier 1 - 4 Teams
Tier 3 – 4 teams
Tier 1 NBC- 4 Teams
Tier 2 NBC - 8 Teams
Tier 3 NBC - 8 Teams
Female A – 4 teams
1. Hardest Shot
Total entry of 1 shooter from each team and they will get 3 shots each. A puck will be placed on
the ringette line. Players can get a skating start from as far back as the blue line. The speed of
each shot is recorded. The players with the hardest shots will move on to the semifinal where
each player will get another 3 shots. The hardest shot (fastest speed recorded) will be used to
determine the winner. If there is a tie, the average of the player’s two shots will determine the
winner. If still tied, a shoot off with one shot each will determine a winner.
2. Fastest Skater
Total entry of 1 skater per team, two players at a time line up across from one another at the
red line. To determine who matches against whom they will draw numbers; 1 will skate against
1 and so on. There will be two judges at the red line to indicate who crosses first. Then we
proceed with the next two skaters and so on. The Winners of each race will move on to the next
round until only one player remains and is declared the faster Yelnats skater!
3. Shoot-Out
1 player and 1 goalie from each team will start this challenge. In all divisions goalies will each
face 3 shooters (3 total shots) in the first round and all players will get 3 shots (1 each against 3
different goalies). Goals and saves will be recorded for each goaltender and shooter. This will
continue until all goalies and shooters have gone. The top shooters and goalies (the number of
players to advance depends on the total number of entrants) will advance to the next round.
The top performers in the second round will be declared winners. Any ties between players
and/or goalies in either round will be broken by an added sudden death round.
4. Goaltender Challenge
Will have 1 goalies from each team, if a team has only 1 goalie they may enter both goalie
events. The challenge will start with the goalies lying on their back in the middle of the
net/crease area, once they are told “Go”, they are timed. Goalie gets up to his/her feet, skates
to the 2 pucks on the blue line, where the goalies will turn around and shoot the puck for the
net. For every goal that is scored, two seconds will be taken off their time. Goalies then skate to
the pucks on the opposite side of the blue line, shoot the puck and then skate hard and cross
the goal line on the same side they are shooting from. Winner with the quickest time wins. If
there is a tie, the finalists will repeat the challenge.
For Tier 2 NBC and Tier 3 NBC, a winner and a runner up will be declared for each category as there will
be 8 teams being represented in each event. For the Tier 1, Tier 3, Tier 1 NBC, and Female A groups, only
a winner will be declared as only 4 teams are being represented. These players will be recognized for
their accomplishments immediately following each event.
